Denver Insurance Defense Firm
Ayd & Johnson, P.C. is a civil litigation firm which provides both representation and consultation services involving insurance law and other civil disputes. The firm’s practice areas encompass insurance coverage, insurance bad faith (including related claims for extra-contractual damages such as Consumer Protection Act claims), class action litigation, tort defense, commercial litigation, and medical bill auditing. Johnson and Ayd’s legal team provides post-litigation evaluation and appellate services. Our attorneys are available to consult regarding insurance and civil litigation matters such as policy drafting, case evaluation, document management, and discovery. In addition, shareholders Patricia Ayd and James Johnson are available to serve as expert witnesses, mediators, and arbitrators.
Pat Ayd and Jim Johnson have each had active civil litigation practices for the last 30 years. At the beginning of 2001, they joined forces to form Johnson & Ayd, P.C. Their intent was to create a small firm dedicated to providing innovative, cutting-edge representation to corporate and individual clients faced with the ever-increasing complexity of civil litigation. In 2008, for variety, the names have been reversed, making this Ayd & Johnson, P.C.
Ayd & Johnson’s philosophy is that our clients are best represented when the individual strengths of attorneys and support staff are applied to specific aspects of each case. This firm-wide approach allows us to provide timely and cost-effective representation. Based on this philosophy of playing to one’s strengths, we utilize our clients’ knowledge and skill to gain a fuller understanding of their legal needs.
Ayd & Johnson’s collective experience provides our clients the benefit of our trial experience; knowledge of legal issues and applicable statutes, regulations, and case law; and our understanding of the impact of litigation on our clients. We not only monitor changes in the law relevant to our areas of practice, but also play a role in developing that law through our trial and appellate practice and membership in professional organizations. This depth of experience is especially important as the rules regarding civil procedure, evidence, and regulation of industry as well as the laws governing insurance coverage issues, extra-contractual liability theories, evidence and damages are continually changing and adapting.
An integral part of an effective defense is assertive use of the rules of procedure and evidence. Ayd & Johnson prides itself on its creative and successful use of these rules to obtain dismissal of inappropriate causes of action, to insist that plaintiffs set forth their claims with the degree of particularity necessary to facilitate a proper defense, to challenge inadequate expert disclosures, and to exclude inadmissible evidence. The firm actively utilizes evidence rules to challenge the admission of questionable scientific evidence.
In response to the burgeoning problems of managing “information” in the electronic age, Ayd & Johnson focuses on assisting clients to strike a reasonable balance between litigation-imposed document retention obligations and practical business objectives. The firm has expertise in electronic document management, corporate document retention policies, document litigation “holds” and creation and use of databases in complex litigation.
